Manel Rodríguez Ripoll
Dr. Manel Rodríguez Ripoll graduated in Physics at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Spain. Afterwards, he joined a Master of Science in Microsystems Engineering at the Hochschule Furtwangen University, Germany, and carried out the Master thesis at the "Experimental Particle Physics" Department of the Jožef Stefan Institute, Slovenia. After completing his master's degree, he continued working in Slovenia at the company Technomedica as Project Engineer under the support of the Slovenian Science Foundation.
In 2004, he joined the Forming and Shaping Business Unit of the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials IWM in Freiburg, Germany as Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher in the European project "SizeDepEn -- Engineering Mechanics based on Size-Dependent Material Properties". At the end of the fellowship, he continued working at the Fraunhofer IWM as Assistant Researcher during one year until finishing his Ph.D., which was defended at the University of Karlsruhe (TH), Germany.
He is currently working at the Centre for Tribology and Technical Diagnostics, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia as a Marie Curie Experienced Researcher in the European project "WEMESURF - "Characterisation of WEear MEchanisms and SURFace functionalities with regard to life time prediction and quality criteria - from micro to the nano range"
His current work combines the experimental characterization of textured surfaces for friction reduction with their numerical analysis using the Finite Element Method (FEM) and Computational Hydrodynamics. Another topic of interest is the modelling using FEM of forming processes, such as wire drawing or rolling.
